I had not realised that she would need it to scan documents in a form that could be edited in programs like Word. Does anyone have a favourite scanner and software that runs well with High Sierra? She has a Canon LiDE 210 scanner but I don't know what software will allow it to scan into an editable form. Any suggestions? Thank you, Iain For documents I'd recommend a Fujitsu ScanSnap.
We used them in the legal world, where as you might expect there was a lot of paperwork to scan. Popular with Mac users, and works very well with Devonthink Pro Office if she needs software for the Mac to manage all that. For documents I use a Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500. The budled software can OCR documents and create many different output formats. I use OCR'ed PDF, but you can configure it to output Word files. I will never again use a flatbed scanner for documents. Scanning 200 pages with the ScanSnap is easy, doing that with a flatbed scanner.you just don't.
ScanSnap iX500 or ScanSnap SV600. Now the Setup DVDs contain NuanceĀ® PDF Converter instead of ABBYY FineReader Express Edition. (*6): ABBYY FineReader Express Edition for Mac is required for using ABBYY FineReader Pro for Mac. This software is compatible with macOS Sierra v10.12.1. (*7): Check with the vendor for compatibility information. When duplex scanning is carried out on macOS Sierra, data on the back side of the scanned cards are not imported to CardMinder. I use one of the ScanSnap scanners myself as part of my paperless.
As for your friend.: - if scanning a lot of documents, invest in a dedicated document scanner (iX500). if staying with the LiDE210 or only scanning once in a while: there's software out there than can turn a scan into a Word document. Look at PDFPenPro (I use that for scanned PDFs I get via email, either to OCR or create a.doc) and/or ABBYY Finereader.
